Have you ever had a craving that left you wondering how to make pizza dough from scratch? There is nothing like the smell of pizza wafting through the house as it bakes in the oven. Whether you are making personal size pizzas or large pizzas to share, this recipe is sure to deliver.
This easy pizza dough recipe uses simple ingredients and comes together quickly. You can knead this dough by hand, or you can let your mixer do the heavy lifting for you.
This recipe is versatile. It can be used for any type of pizza or it can be used for stromboli, pizza pockets, or calzones.
When ordering a pizza for delivery you have to pay for the pizza, the delivery fee, and a tip. You can easily spend upwards of $25 for one large pizza. Making pizza at home is a budget friendly alternative.
Not only is making pizza at home budget friendly, it can be a fun family activity. Each member gets to build their own personal size pizza with whatever toppings they want. In my household, we make our own pizza at least every other week. This allows us to save money and customize the toppings to our preferences.

This recipe can be easily doubled or tripled. I love to double this recipe to have some extra pizza dough in the freezer for a quick and easy dinner. This recipe makes two 12 inch pizzas or four personal size pizzas.
To make this pizza crust, you will first mix together the water, sugar, and yeast. Make sure the water is warm, but not too hot. I aim for 100-110 degrees Fahrenheit. If the temperature is too high, the heat can kill the yeast. As a result, your pizza dough will not rise. Once the yeast, water, and sugar are mixed together wait about 5 minutes until the yeast starts to get foamy.
Add in the oil, salt, and flour and mix together. This should yield a soft, but not sticky dough. Knead the dough by hand or with a stand mixer. If kneading by hand, knead for 8-10 minutes and if using a stand mixer knead for 4-5 minutes. Kneading helps to develop the gluten in the dough. Allow the dough to rise for about an hour, or until it has doubled in size.
At this point, if you are freezing the dough, first divide it into the size that you want. Then wrap it in plastic wrap and place it in a Ziploc bag in the freezer. If you are using it right away, roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface. Top with the toppings of your choice. Bake at 400 degrees for 15 to 20 minutes or until the crust is golden brown. If your crust is thicker or you have a lot of toppings the pizza will take longer to cook.
